RICH TOWARD GOD

Today’s Scripture: Luke 12:16–21 KJV
“So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
— Luke 12:21 KJV
Jesus tells us about a man who had a great harvest. His fields produced so much that he didn’t have enough room to store it all. So he said, “I will pull down my barns, and build greater.”
Notice something: his barns were getting bigger, but his soul was getting smaller.
He had plenty of possessions, but he was missing the most important possession of all—a right relationship with God.
He said, “Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.”
But God said:
“Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee.”
What a sobering reminder!
The man had made plans for his money.
He had made plans for his possessions.
He had made plans for his future.
But he had made no plans for eternity.
🔥 DON’T GET SO BUSY BUILDING YOUR BARN THAT YOU FORGET YOUR SOUL
There is nothing wrong with working hard.
There is nothing wrong with being blessed.
There is nothing wrong with having nice things.
The problem comes when things have us.
When possessions become our security, money becomes our confidence, success becomes our identity, and material things become our measure of happiness, we have allowed the blessing to take the place of the Blesser.
God wants us to prosper, but He also wants us to remember who gave us the power to prosper.
Everything we have came through His hands.
Every door that opened—God allowed it.
Every opportunity—God allowed it.
Every provision—God provided it.
Every breath we breathe—God gave it.
So the question today isn’t simply, “What do I have?”
The question is:
“Am I rich toward God?”
Are you rich in faith?
Are you rich in love?
Are you rich in generosity?
Are you rich in obedience?
Are you rich in compassion?
Are you rich in service?
Are you using what God placed in your hands to bless somebody else?
Because when this life is over, we cannot take our houses with us.
We cannot take our bank accounts with us.
We cannot take our cars, clothes, titles, accomplishments, or possessions with us.
But what we do for God has eternal value.

Your life is in God’s hands!
When you don’t understand the season—your life is in His hands.
When the money gets tight—your life is in His hands.
When the door closes—your life is in His hands.
When your plans don’t work out—your life is in His hands.
When you don’t know what tomorrow will bring—your life is in His hands.
You don’t have to put your trust in earthly treasures because the God who holds your life is greater than anything this world can offer.
So don’t live merely to accumulate.
Live to glorify God.
Don’t just ask, “How much can I get?”
Ask, “How much can God do through me?”
Don’t just build bigger barns.
Build a bigger testimony.
Don’t just store up treasures on earth.
Store up treasures in heaven.
Don’t just become rich in possessions.
Become rich toward God!
🙏 PRAYER
Father, in the name of Jesus, thank You for every blessing You have placed in our lives.
Forgive us for the times we have become more focused on Your blessings than on You, the One who blesses us.
Lord, make us rich toward You.
Give us hearts that are generous, faithful, obedient, and willing to serve. Teach us to use what You have placed in our hands for Your glory and for the blessing of others.
Remind us that our lives are not secured by what we possess. Our lives are in Your hands.
When we have much, keep us humble.
When we have little, keep us faithful.
When we are blessed, make us generous.
And in every season, keep our hearts fixed on You.
In Jesus’ mighty name,

I will not allow earthly treasures to become my greatest treasure.
My faith is my treasure.
My relationship with God is my treasure.
My salvation is my treasure.
My purpose is my treasure.
My life is in God’s hands, and I choose to be rich toward Him!
