Serving God, Not Money

Good morning, Dockery Ministries Family!
As we continue our September series on Financial Stewardship, today’s scripture reminds us of an important spiritual truth: We cannot serve both God and money.
Money is a necessary part of our daily lives. We use it to provide food, shelter, clothing, transportation, and other essential needs for ourselves and our families. We also use our financial resources to support our churches, ministries, charitable organizations, and individuals experiencing hardship.
However, Jesus teaches us that money must never become the master of our lives.
In Matthew 6:24, the word “mammon” refers to wealth or riches. Jesus warns us that when we allow the pursuit of wealth to become our primary focus, we risk placing our financial desires above our relationship with God.
There is nothing inherently wrong with earning a good living, building wealth, saving for retirement, or establishing a financial legacy for future generations. The spiritual danger arises when we begin to trust money more than we trust God.
We must remember that everything we possess ultimately belongs to the Lord. Our income, businesses, careers, homes, investments, and other material possessions are resources that God has entrusted to our care.
As faithful stewards, we are responsible for managing these resources with wisdom, integrity, generosity, and gratitude.
When God is our Master, our financial decisions should reflect His teachings. We should conduct our business affairs honestly, fulfill our financial obligations, provide for our families, assist those in need, and avoid allowing greed to control our hearts.
We should also recognize that our value as individuals is not determined by our bank account balances, professional titles, material possessions, or financial status.
Our true worth comes from our relationship with God.
The Lord desires our hearts, our obedience, and our faithfulness. He does not want us to become so consumed with accumulating earthly wealth that we neglect our spiritual responsibilities.
As we begin this new week, let us examine our priorities and ask ourselves:
Are we allowing our financial circumstances to determine our peace and happiness?
Are we making decisions based solely on financial gain, or are we seeking God’s guidance?
Are we using our financial blessings to glorify God and make a positive difference in the lives of others?
Let us remember that money is a resource to be managed, not a master to be served.
When we place God first, we acknowledge that He is the source of our provision, the foundation of our security, and the greatest treasure we will ever possess.

Evaluate Your Financial Priorities
Today, take a few moments to examine how you are managing the financial resources God has entrusted to your care.
Consider whether your spending, saving, giving, and financial goals reflect your commitment to serving God.
Identify one practical action you can take this week to strengthen your financial stewardship. This may include reviewing your household budget, setting aside money for savings, making a charitable contribution, assisting someone experiencing financial hardship, or reducing an unnecessary expense.
As you make financial decisions, remember to seek God’s wisdom and maintain a spirit of gratitude.
Our goal is not simply to accumulate wealth, but to manage our resources faithfully while honoring God in everything we do.

Dear Dockery Ministries Family,
Beginning today, we will include a special Invitation to Salvation in our Sunday Daily Inspiration messages.
Our desire is to share the love of Jesus Christ and extend an invitation to anyone who has not yet accepted Him as their personal Lord and Savior.
Regardless of your background, financial circumstances, past mistakes, or current challenges, God’s love is available to you.
Salvation is not something that we can purchase with money, earn through professional accomplishments, or obtain through material possessions.
Salvation is God’s gift of grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ.
The Promise of Salvation
John 3:16 (KJV)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
This scripture reminds us that God’s love extends to everyone who believes in His Son.
Jesus Christ came into the world, died for our sins, and rose again so that we might receive forgiveness and the gift of eternal life.
The Bible also tells us:
Romans 10:9–10 (KJV)
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we invite you to open your heart to Him today.
You do not have to wait until your financial circumstances improve, your personal challenges disappear, or you believe that you have become worthy of God’s love.
You can come to Jesus just as you are.
A Prayer of Salvation
If you desire to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we invite you to pray the following prayer sincerely from your heart:
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with humble hearts, acknowledging that we are sinners in need of Your grace, mercy, and forgiveness.
We believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, that He died on the cross for our sins, and that You raised Him from the dead.
Lord Jesus, we confess You as our Lord and Savior. We ask You to forgive our sins, cleanse our hearts, and guide us into a new life of faith and obedience.
Help us to turn away from sin and surrender every area of our lives to You.
Teach us to trust You, follow Your Word, and grow in our relationship with You each day.
Thank You for Your unconditional love, Your saving grace, and the gift of eternal life.
In the precious name of Jesus Christ, we pray.

Heavenly Father,

Give us wisdom to manage the resources You have entrusted to our care. Help us to be responsible in our spending, disciplined in our saving, faithful in our giving, and honest in all our financial dealings.
Protect our hearts from greed, envy, selfishness, and the temptation to place material possessions above our spiritual well-being.
Remind us that our true security comes from You and not from the amount of money we possess.
Father, we also lift up individuals and families who are experiencing financial hardship. We ask You to provide for their needs, open doors of opportunity, and surround them with compassionate individuals who are willing to offer assistance and encouragement.
We pray for those who are seeking employment, struggling with debt, facing housing insecurity, or working diligently to provide for their households.
